Convention Registration

Register for the Flint Hills, Kansas DSA Chapter Convention by Friday, June 17, 2026 at 5:00pm. The Annual Chapter Convention is a time to reflect on the past year, and look forward and plan for the upcoming year. At the convention we accept reports, consider questions of chapter business, and elect chapter officers. Below is the agenda for this year’s convention.

Chapter Updates

  • New and improved website: The National DSA Tech Committee is providing individual chapters with free access to a WordPress website. Last month we informed you that we had migrated the chapter website from being hosted on Github to Google Sites. With access to WordPress, we are able to provide a website that is more easily manageable (even by non-techy folks) on the backend, but also provides an accessible and user-friendly front-end design. Please take time to explore the website. Some important areas for members are:

  • Juneteenth: Some comrades volunteered with the local NAACP chapters to try and grow their membership over two weekends in both Junction City and Manhattan.
  • NAACP: The Junction City and Manhattan Branches of the NAACP are joining together to become the Flint Hills Branch of the NAACP. They need to have 100 members in order to be recognized by the national organization. If you are interested in supporting this endeavor, become an NAACP member today. Membership is not only for Black/African Americans those of the African Diaspora.
  • Freedom Fest: NAACP is still taking volunteers for tabling at Freedom Fest from July 1-5 in Junction City. Let us know if you’d like to volunteer. You don’t need to be an NAACP member to help participate. Reach out to Comrade Matt if you are interested.

June Chapter Meeting Minutes

The Chapter held its General Body meeting on June 11, 2026 at the Poyntz Shelter in City Park. Here are the meeting minutes.

July Chapter Meeting and Social

There will be no July Chapter Meeting or Chapter Social, due to the Chapter Convention. Information about the next chapter meeting, socials, and perhaps a rough outline of the coming year’s calendar will be shared with everyone after the convention.

Committee and Working Groups

CIVIC (Community Involvement and Volunteer Initiatives Committee)

CIVIC had a very productive meeting where discussion of our first initiative to engage with the community, grow the chapter, and filling a need took place. Committee members are asked to bring their ideas to the next meeting in August, where the committee will vote and decide where we will start. If your initiative is not chosen, it does not meant that CIVIC will not take it on as a project in the future. If you are interested in getting involved with CIVIC, make sure to choose the CIVIC role in the #roles channel on the Chapter Discord.

Political Education Committee

The PEC is on break and will reconvene in August. Derron is working on an open source format for political education in the interim and will present it to the chapter in August.

Housing Justice and Tenant Organizing Working Group

The HJ Working Group did a dry run of a presentation that they are developing for the community yesterday, June 28th at the Manhattan Public Library. They received a lot of really great feedback from comrades who attended and are continuing on working on developing the presentation, as well as building out a repository of resources. Comrade Derron was accepted to the Tenant Union Federation’s Union School and will be participating in that from July to October. If you are interested in housing justice and tenant organizing, join us!

Political Action and Mobilizing Committee

As some of you may know, our August 4th election has an important vote on how Kansas selects its court justices. The Wichita field organizer of Kansas United for Impartial Courts is looking for people to contribute either to phone banking or direct canvassing here in Manhattan. They are offering training to do so, which we can turn around into a learning experience for similar actions under our own banner(s). This is relatively time-sensitive – the vote is just barely over a month away.
