Meetings

Our last chapter general body meeting took place last week. The meetings minutes are ready for feedback.

Next Monday, September 28, 2026, the steering committee will meet on Discord. Reach out to the SC if you have anything you’d like the SC to discuss.

Changes to Weekly Events

Comrade Club will now be a time for committees and working groups to meet to organize. This will allow for regular meetings to take place each month. We still welcome folks to come and hang out, even if you are not part of one of the committees or working groups. A full schedule for each committee and working group will be added to the calendar to replace the Comrade Club spaces. Tomorrow, at 6pm, Flint Hills Tenants United will be meeting.

Socialist Run Club remains to take place each Wednesday at 6:30 pm in the City Park. In addition to Wednesdays, the Swoletariat will run on Saturdays 10:30 am., same place. While some folks are training for a 5k, we welcome all comrades at all levels. Your running speed can be walking.

Weekly Social Hours

There are also two social hours that those interested in learning more about our chapter can join. We will be getting together on Wednesdays at 7:30 at Manhattan Brewing Co. and Saturday mornings at 11:30 at Ziggys Pizza. Join us!

Flint Hills Socialist Book Club

The Flint Hills Socialist Book Club will still be meeting the last Sunday of each month, but instead of a common read, from hear on out, we encourage all comrades to bring whatever it is they are reading and to discuss it with everyone. If you want to read a book with others, that is totally fine, and you can organize as a small group to decide how much of the book you want to read before each book club meeting. This way if you aren’t someone who will read a whole book every month, you can take it a pace you are comfortable with. We are hoping this new setup will allow us to be able to share and trade books, but also have in depth dialogue about how the books we are reading is related to our organizing, but our lives as socialists.

CIVIC

At the last CIVIC meeting, there was discussion about tackling the transportation issues that many working folks run into, in terms of how people get to and from work. There was also discussion of purchasing unclaimed luggage, Amazon packages, etc. to sort and make use of. There have been some changes within the CIVIC category and channels on Discord, so make sure to assign yourself the proper role and head over to check out the conversation.

Housing Working Group

There is a Flint Hills Tenants United meeting tomorrow during Comrade Club.

Political Education

The first session of the People’s Free School will be this Thursday, October 22, 2026 at 6pm in the Collaboration Space at the Manhattan Public Library. You do not need to bring anything, except maybe something to write on.

The People’s Free School is an open, adoptable model for collective adult political education. It draws on the folk school tradition of Myles Horton and the critical pedagogy of Paulo Freire. There are no professors and no students in the usual sense. Everyone in the room is both a learner and a teacher. The curriculum is shaped by the people who show up.

If you are interested in participating, please reach out to Derron. The People’s Free School will be separate from DSA, sort of like the Flint Hills Tenants United.

Derron is hoping to run sessions weekly on Thursdays.
